Property worth about N1 billion was lost by traders in the inferno at the Sokoto Kara Market.
This is according to Danladi Bako, the Sokoto State Commissioner for Information.
Bako said that the assessment of the number of victims and losses was made by a special committee set up by Governor Aliyu Wamakko after the incident.
“Wamakko will soon meet with leaders of the traders union of the market with a view to chart ways to assist them.
“The state government will soon come to the aid of the victims by donating money to them to rebuild the market and restart their businesses,’’ he said.
Bako said that the council had commiserated with the victims of the fire incident.
“The council has also discussed proactive measures to prevent the recurrence of such incidents in the state,’’ he said.
