8 die in Kogi road mishap


No fewer than eight persons died on the spot, while one sustained injuries in an auto accident that occurred yesterday, in Osara village along Abuja- Lokoja- Okene highway, in Kogi State.
According to an eyewitness, the accident happened at about 7am when a truck overtook another and in the process collided with a bus.
The bus, according to the account, was heading towards the southern part of the country when the accident occurred.
The Kogi State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Mr Olakunle Motajo, who confirmed the accident, said it involved a Toyota Hiace bus with registration number BA 04A28, belonging to Bauchi State Government and a white truck with registration number SMK 694XB.
He said that nine people were involved in the accident and confirmed that eight of the passengers died while one sustained injuries on the spot, adding that the possible cause of the accident was still under investigation.
According to him, the dead including five adult males, two adult females and one male child.
Motajo said the injured victim was taken to Kogi State Specialist Hospital for medical attention while the corpses were deposited at the same hospital and Ankuri Hospital mortuary in Lokoja.
The sector commander advised motorists plying the Lokoja-Abuja to always exercise caution while on the highway, saying that the obstruction caused by the accident has been cleared.
