APC insists authentic voters’ register
The All Progressives Congress, APC, has said it will not participate in the January 11 Anambra local government elections.
The APC’s decision was announced by its candidate in the November 16, 2013 governorship election, Chris Ngige, in Awka on Thursday.
Mr. Ngige made the announcement after a meeting with party members and APC aspirants in the elections.
He said the decision was taken after reviewing the last gubernatorial election, which he said was characterised by irregularities and was also inconclusive.
Mr. Ngige commended the people of the state for their steadfastness and patience.
Mr. Ngige, who is also a Senator said few days to the election, the voters register had not been given to political parties, while the last voters’ register used to conduct the gubernatorial election has not been reviewed.
He explained that the APC would insist on an authentic voters’ register before it could consider reviewing its decision to boycott the council poll.
The election scheduled for Saturday, January 11, will be the first to be conducted in 13 years in Anambra state.
