The Ogun State Police Command has arrested two suspected armed robbers, saying they operated at the Sapade end of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The police said the suspects, Lukman Azeez, and Lekan Okewo, were arrested on Saturday by the command’s anti-crime team at 9.40pm, while allegedly trying to block the expressway.
The spokesperson for the police in the state, DSP Muyiwa Adejobi, in a statement on Monday said two locally-made guns, cutlases, one unregistered motorcycle and charms were recovered from the robbers.
He said, “The suspects are natives of Olugbo Village near Fidiwo in Ogun State. They have confessed to robbing many commuters along the expressway and mentioned other members of their gang as Taiwo Maboroje (the motorcycle rider who escaped from the robbery scene), and Adewumi Olanrewaju. All hands are on deck to get them apprehended.
“The arrested suspects are presently at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta for a thorough investigation; and will soon appear in court as directed by the Commissioner of Police Ogun State, Mr. Ikemefuna Okoye.
“The Commissioner, however, advises road users to beware of hoodlums on motorcycles who deceive drivers and road users by raising false alarms of flat tyres or the likes with a view to robbing them. He also assures Nigerians of adequate security of lives and property along the highways and in Ogun State in general.”
