Court frees AIT over alleged assault on Joseph Mbu


An Abuja Magistrate’s Court has discharged an African Independent Television reporter, Amaechi Anakwe, for addressing the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 7, Abuja, Joseph Mbu, as “controversial”.
Mbu arrested The AIT senior correspondent on Thursday for describing him as ‘controversial’ on a television programme.
Presiding Chief Magistrate, Anthony Ogboi, discharged the AIT journalist, after the prosecution counsel, Chijoke Okezie, made an oral application for the withdrawal of the charge.
Okezie told the court that Mbu instructed that the charge be withdrawn and that Anakwe be brought to his office for further clarification on the matter.
