Unknown gunmen in Anguwan Mallam area of Obi Local Government in Nasarawa State reportedly killed two persons yesterday morning after ambushing a passenger bus travelling from Alushi, in Keana local goverment to Lafia, the state capital.
A police officer, Inpector Ibrahim Adamu, attached to Keana Police division, was said to have escaped narrowly, after sustaining gunshot wounds but his whereabouts is still unknown.
One Mohammadu Mohammed and another victim of the attack, whose identity is yet to be ascertained, were said to have been burnt to death inside the bus.
A royalty of Alushi Alago chiefdom, the Moye, Mohammed Ozawose, who sustained grave bullet wounds during the attack died while receiving treatment at the Obi General Hospital.
Some residents of the area who fled to Akunza Migili in Lafia local government, said suspicious movements by youths believed to be of Eggon extraction were seen in the area since Sunday night leading to heightened tension before the bus attack.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Ismaila Numan, confirmed the incident, saying the missing police officer, Adamu, and three others, were on a peace mission to Lafia from Keana.
He said officers and men of the command have been dispatched in search of their missing colleague, adding that no arrest has yet been made, while assuring that investigation is on course and the culprits would be brought to book.
