Ekiti: Reps Condemn Assault On Judiciary


The House of Representatives yesterday described the invasion of a High Court in Ekiti State and the beating up of judges by political thugs as an assault on the judiciary.

The lawmakers also urged the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Suleiman Abba to order a thorough investigation into the incident with a view to arrest and prosecute the culprits.

Members of the House also supported efforts by National Judicial Council (NJC) to investigate the invasion of the courts and assault on the judges and other judicial officers in the state.

The resolution was sequel to the adoption of the prayer of a motion brought before the House by Hon. Ifeoluwa Arowosoge (Ekiti/APC).

Arowosoge said that on September 22, a senior judge, Justice Isaac Ogunyemi was beaten up by thugs.

“On Thursday of the same week, being September 25, 2014, another judge, Justice John Adeleye was also beaten, dragged on the floor with his official regalia torn.
