The Madam Tinubu hall of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Yaba, Lagos state, reportedly caught fire in the early hours of yesterday morning.
According to Naij.com, the fire started around 4a.m. Sunday morning. It was gathered that a student used a hot plate to cook and put it under her bed without totally putting out the heat. The fire started from the room and spread to other rooms, luckily, no life was lost before the fire was put off. However, a few students were injured when they tried to jump from their windows to escape the fire.
One of the students who did not want her name published repoerted that the fire occurred around 3:30 to 4am yesterday.
According to her, “I could not explain what caused the fire because I stayed on the third floor when my colleagues from the first floor shouted Fire! Fire! We quickly rushed out with the porters on duty to rescue those trapped but even with all our efforts, some who jumped broke their legs; one asthmatic student was choked.”
“We thank God because nobody died. I left to church early so I don’t know whether management is aware of it,” she said.
Reportedly, UNILAG students had to use pure water to put out the hostel fire.
