Ondo APC lawmakers sue Assembly over plan to declare seats vacant

Two legislators in the Ondo State House of Assembly who recently defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) have sued the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Jumoke Akindele over plans to suspend them from the House and declare their seats vacant.
The two lawmakers, Olugbenga Edema and Fola Olasehinde-Vicente, recently defected from the Labour Party (LP) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) respectively for the APC.

In the suit filed at Federal High Court, Akure, the legislators are praying the Court to declare that their seats as members of Ondo state House of Assembly subsist and are not vacant.

They also want the Court to declare that the steps being taken by the Speaker and Ondo State House of Assembly to suspend them from the house for their defection to the APC before the completion of their tenure was unconstitutional and illegal.

Join in the suit is the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
