Police Beef Up Security Ahead Of Fayose’s Inauguration


Police in Ekiti State have beefed up security around Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital ahead of Thursday’s inauguration and swearing in ceremony of Dr. Peter Ayodele Fayose as the governor of the state.

The state commissioner for Police, Mr Taiwo Lakanu, who disclosed this yesterday said that adequate security measures have been put in place by the command to prevent breach of law and order.

According to a statement by the Police Public Relations in the state,the commissioner has ordered the deployment of adequate manpower and equipment to secure the town and venue of the event.

He added that bomb disposal units, counter terrorist units, police mobile force (PMF) and swift response squad (SRS) have been also strategically positioned to ensure an eventful and hitch free ceremony.

He said that the police personnel have been mandated to embark on thorough stop and search operation on persons and vehicles to prevent trouble makers from infiltrating the venues.

In readiness for the ceremony, armed mobile and regular policemen, detachment of armed solders in Hilux vans had also arrived the state capital.

The armed men, including officers of the Civil Defence Corps and men of the State Security Service were seen patrolling some major streets on Wednesday, apparently to announce their arrival and send warning signals to trouble makers.

The venue of the event, Oluyemi Kayode Stadium, was wearing a new look as platform, sounds and visuals equipment have been put in place to in preparation for the ceremony.
